ETFs or top 3 stocks?

Dear community, in building the ultimate income portfolio, is it better to use ETFs and CEFs, or to use the top three of a particular industry? For example, the top three healthy, high dividend paying utility stocks, or top three mortgage REIT players, etc.

Let me know what you think.

  1. Not all ETF provides a dividend, and those that provide them may not be lined up with the dividend of the individual investments. ETF are better for diversification lowering your risk but also potential reward. If you can be on a daily basis on top of fluctuation of individual securities then individual stocks may be better for you.
